MANILA, Philippines-The Philippine women’s under-19 squad left for Kuala Lumpur Sunday to see action in the Asian Football Confederation Women’s Under-19 Qualifiers beginning Tuesday.

The RP footbelles, who trained for three weeks at the Philsports Complex in Pasig City, face tough odds as they have been grouped with heavyweights Myanmar, Vietnam, Singapore, Korea and Jordan.

But RP manager Ernie Nierras is optimistic that the team can pull off a surprise.

“They are ready,” he said of the team mentored by Abing Lim and also managed by Filbert Alquiros. “They are very determined to win.”

The team is led by Natasha Alquiros, a former national Under-17 Most Valuable Player. Completing the roster are Poveda’s Catherine Huang, Huff Marie Navea, Maria Inez Lorenzo, and Michela Veloso; MPLFA standouts Maria Leah Cruz, Christina Delos Reyes, Isabella Kilayko, Pilar Ainara Santos and Isabella Rivilla, Iloilo’s Julie Ann Sucob, Mara Kristia Sabanal and Airene Decena, La Salle Antipolo’s Kyra Tagbo and Ayn Aragon, Davao’s Jay Jay Matalam, Angelie Cadayona and Marice Magdolot, Dumaguete’s Karen Grace Ladero, FEU’s Janeth Mercado and Assumption’s Christiana Mendoza.
