THE Cebu Amateur Football Club (CAFC) is coming up with a bigger football festival as part of the Sinulog festivities next year.

CAFC is slated to hold the 2nd Sinulog Football Festival on Jan. 7 and 8, 2012. Tournament chairman Francis Ramirez said they plan to use two venues—University of San Carlos Technological Center (USC-TC) and San Roque football field to accommodate more teams.

Last year’s inaugural event attracted a total of 105 teams. There could have been more if organizers were not forced to turn away teams due to venue problems.

For the festival’s second edition, organizers made sure they started preparations early. They held their first coaches’ meeting last Saturday.

Currently, the tournament has already attracted more than 70 teams with some coming from Carcar City, Danao City, Barili, Masbate, Zamboanga, Leyte and San Carlos City. Dipolog also made its inquiries about the tournament and might be sending more than one team.

The final submission of entries and tournament fees is scheduled on Nov. 26. The final coaches meeting will also be held on that day at the conference room of the Cebu City Sports Center .

This 7-aside festival-type tournament added two new categories—the Players 6 (P6) and the Girls 14 (G14). To also accommodate other firms who want to play, organizers changed the Inter-BPO category to Inter-Company. The rest of the categories are P8, P10, B12, B14, B17, G17, Ladies’ Open, Men’s Open and the 38 and Above category. CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON

I hope I could join this too. I will just have to look for a club first though.
