Well, I applaud AKTV for making the effort and taking on the expense of doing this in the name of popularizing the sport. And, having met both YH bros I can certainly understand the decision to hire them. Their choice is due to many factors, not the least is that they have camera presence, experience working in front of a camera, and they speak clearly and well, which I suppose would be a requirement of anyone doing TV work. After all, you might be a great player, have smashing good looks, but if your "presence" in front of a camera is weak, well then you would not be hired for this role.

BUT - I think AKTV has missed an opportunity. I think it would have been great if they could have balanced the two fil-fors with two actual local boys. I think it would have been brilliant for example to have Chieffy describe growing up as a footballer, the challenges he faced, and his suggestions for young local boys in terms of what to do to achieve their dreams. I think in the context of young Filipino footballers, someone like Chieffy would have the chance to really connect to the heart of a local footballer, having faced all the challenges and having achieved so much.

You know what had some good T.V. time here in the PNW? The Sounders having their Open Try-out's...they filmed these, and played this over the course of about 3-4 weekends...it was great to watch the process take place from start to finish..

For those of us familiar with the try-out format of the elite clubs, it all made sense, but those who had never really witnessed this first hand they were simply mesmerized but what took place, how long a potential player had to make an impression, and so on and so forth...they televised the "pre-try out" clinic the club had prior to each try-out, and kind of went over soccer moves with their appropriate names...kind of like an educational piece. It was pretty cool. quite a few local sponsors signed up, which helps a lot...

Maybe AKTV should consider doing something of a "reality" show...more like a documentary...these shows seem to sell like crazy these days, and if they could follow an aspiring Azkal, an average guy through their journey pre-tryouts, and then through try-outs I think the station would have something there. It also gives insight to the locals as to what it truly takes to want it, and prepare for it.

I don't know, just a suggestion...I get that the YH are easy on the eye, but another angle into the sport would be nice as well...

i saw a reality show from australia following this exact format. 20 odd hopefuls start and week by week another 2 or 3 are cut. very entertaining.

I would have to agree with the idea of having Caligdong with the two Younghusbands. Some Filipinos would still look at the YH as "foreigners", so for the Filipinos to connect more personally, Caligdong is the top choice.
