Hello EVERYONE!
I am super excited, and honored to be a member of this forum. And yes, I write like I speak…so please don’t try to correct my grammar or spelling, because it is what it is. Also, don’t ever take anything too personal. I am a pretty direct, blunt person and this sometimes comes off as a bit rude or condescending, but trust me, if I take the time to offer you my opinion, feedback, suggestions, etc., take it as a compliment, because it means you got my attention, which is typically hard to do in real life. Oh, and if I am p’d off at something you wrote, you will know…and this my fellow Azkaleros is when you will know the difference of me being upset and not. :o)
OK, so here I am a 37 year old (I am told I don't look my age, that I look much younger, and I am going to stick to that!!!) mother of 3 boys, two of which play the wonderful sport of soccer. Yes, I am calling it soccer, because I live in the U.S.A, and if I call it by its proper name, folks around here automatically assume it’s the other football…so I have to keep it simple. So, I am labeled as a “Soccer Mom,” and guess what, I LOVE it! Why? Well duh…I am! Soccer mom’s in the U.S.A. are thought of to be stay at home mom’s, running around in big SUV’s, looking like they just stepped out of an Adidas commercial, sporting the latest hairstyles, and talking about vacations, how they don’t have enough time, while sipping on an alcoholic beverage, typically a stylish one.
Well, I would be lying if I didn’t admit to fit the mold, with the exception of two or three items. I was forced to become a stay at home mom, by the big ugly, dreaded PINK SLIP!!! Oh yes, I was laid off…I thought it was the worst day of my life. I had been working full time since I was 17 years old, my family depended on both my husband and my income, to make ends meet, and well I just didn’t see it coming. Both the boys play “Premier Club” soccer, and the fees are NOT cheap!!! One of the boys JM (16 year old) had just completed try-out’s, so new fees were to start, the other JJ (12 year old) had his fees paid in full, but try-out’s were fast approaching…which meant new fees all over again. To top it off, they both moved clubs, and JM’s high school season was literally starting the day I got laid off. All I could think of was $$$, and how I would make it all work.
Yes, I drive an SUV, a Lincoln Navigator to be exact…and why? Hello, did I mention I have 3 boys? Yup, that’s why, plus I don’t like mini-vans. I was working, we could afford it, so why not? A larger vehicle makes it super easy to trek around for the boys’ practices, trainings, games, carpools, etc.
Do I walk around sporting the latest fashions, in sports clothes? No! I use to, but I gained a little weight with my NI (4 year old), and don’t feel comfortable in my skin, so until I lose the “baby weight” I am not focused on spending the money on the expensive looks! But do try and look somewhat decent …LOL, so I think! My hair, well I love my pony tails, so the less fuss the better!
Vacations??? What is that? Just kidding…but seriously, not anymore. Our travels our limited to our out of town trips for the boys soccer. It simply is too expensive to try to do it all on one income, and I am sorry, but I REFUSE to charge a vacation on a credit card!!!
Time – well, guilty as charged…I am a genuine multi-tasker, so I seem to always have time. Also, remember I use to work full time, and I ALWAYS had time for my boys, so now I have MORE time!!!
Drink? Yes, occasionally, in the proper environment, for the proper reasons. I don’t go around looking for excuses to drink. My favorite drinks? Well, if it is a beer make it a hefeweizen, or yes a Mexican beer! But honestly, I am a tequila gal, so I prefer a Reserva de la Familia (private reserve of the Don Julio brand), or Herradura, or Jimador…orange juice, straight up, is all good!
I have been married for 16 wonderful years to my husband, who is from the Philippines – Pangasinan to be exact. He was born and raised over there, did most of his schooling until he moved to the states. Me? I know I look a little Filipina, but I am not, just married to one. I am actually Native American, Mexican, and Spanish. So, I just call myself a mutt! My mother is Native American; my father is half Spanish and half Mexican. He and his siblings was the first Mexican born generation on his father’s side, so by default he is Mexican…WOO HOO, my grandmother trumped!!! LOL! I was born in the U.S.A., but have dual citizenship, and was raised in Mexico. My heart is 100% Mexican, so if you meet me in real life, more likely than not I am going to tell you I am Mexican, but then when you give the puzzled look, because of my appearance I will give you the breakdown!
OK so that’s it from today, you get to know a little bit about me, and going forward you get to hear all about my life as a Soccer Mom. Trust me, there is never a dull day in my life…I am blessed by God, and I appreciate every moment of it!
