    Hi all,
What do you think would be the best Azkals Chant? post your ideas here...

for me i pick Jose Corazon de Jesus' "Bayan ko"

    Ang bayan kong Pilipinas
    Lupain ng ginto't bulaklak
    Pag-ibig ang sa kanyang palad
    Nag-alay ng ganda't dilag.
At sa kanyang yumi at ganda
    Dayuhan ay nahalina
    Bayan ko, binihag ka
    Nasadlak sa dusa.

    Ibon mang may layang lumipad
    Kulungin mo at umiiyak
    Bayan pa kayang sakdal dilag
    Ang di magnasang makaalpas!
    Pilipinas kong minumutya
    Pugad ng luha ko't dalita
    Aking adhika,
    Makita kang sakdal laya!

I just can imagine the stands in bacolod shaking while all the Azkals Fans chant out this song!!!

    Go Pinas! Go Azkals!

It is inappropriate, and impossible, to use a slow and solemn song as a chant. "Bayan Ko" is exactly that - a slow song. You can't shake the stadium because people will not jump and scream. They will stand still because that's what the song calls for.

Bamboo's "Noypi", in my opinion, is also impossible to chant because it is full of long silences. The chorus is acceptable but it is kinda too short.

To create a suitable chant, people should at least be familiar with existing football chants in terms of their general feel. You can't just take a song and scream it in the stadium just because it is nationalistic or what.

Going back to "Bayan Ko"... Chants are supposed to inject not only nationalism and team spirit to the match. It should also give energy. SINGING (notice I said SING and not CHANT) "Bayan Ko" will NOT GIVE THE APPROPRIATE KIND OF ENERGY.

@kelbert - You have a point there, but i think the patriotism spirit of the bayan ko song makes the fans and the players especially really emotional and motivated, it will surely pump them up, just imagine 20k fans in Panaad this feb singing it all together, its hair raising, its like we all are going to war.. but i guess that's just me :) I guess im just imagining LiverPool's "Never Walk alone" chant.. hehehe.. anyways thanks for the reply in post..

    Bamboo's Noypi is OK.

how bout Spongecola's "Puso",, may lyrics na ganto:

    Ang puso
    Ialay
    Sa laban
    Kapalit ay tagumpay

    Ang puso
    Iaalay
Sa laban, sa laban, sa laban, sa laban mo

    ==========================

    @goalie - here's how Webster defines chant:
    Chant \Chant\, v. i.

    1. To make melody with the voice; to sing. "Chant to the sound of the viol." --Amos vi. 5. [1913 Webster]

    2. (Mus.) To sing, as in reciting a chant. [1913 Webster]
