I am an OFW working here in Mongolia and today (March 3, 2011) I went to the stadium where our Azkals are going to play here in Ulaanbaatar. I have some news for all of you in PH. It is covered white with snow! Check out the photos I uploaded here:

Your comments are of course welcome but please be positive about it. Alam nyo Mongolia is not like the Philippines. They have their own set of plus and minuses too just like we do in the Philippines. Thanks.

Just curious. What kind job do you have in mongolia?

I have this assumption that majority of Mongols still cling to Nomadic form of life. How modern is Mongolia? Is it just Ulaanbaatar or are other cities modern enough (comparing to Philippine cities)?

I have this fascination of Mongolia. Living on the Mongolian country like a nomad (or at least a simulation of it) is one of my traveling dreams along with swimming with South African Great White Sharks.

I work here as an accountant. I am a CPA back there and as we always like to say - there are Pinoys in every corner of the globe. My wife and four children are also here with me. Mahirap na. Maganda pa naman si kumander hehehe.

Azkals to use thermal gear in Ulan Bator

    Cedelf P. Tupas

MANILA—The Philippine football team will use technologically advanced winter gear that will help the Azkals cope with the sub-zero conditions in the second leg of its AFC Challenge Cup duel with Mongolia in Ulan Bator.

Mizuno, official outfitter of the national team, is providing the Azkals with specially designed thermal gear similar to the ones being used by Japanese athletes in the Winter Olympics.

“We have been guaranteed by Mizuno that this gear will be enough for our players to cope with the cold in Mongolia,” said Philippine Football Federation president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta during the ceremonial turnover of the equipment at the PFF office yesterday.

Master Sports general manager Paolo Cagalingan, whose firm is the exclusive distributor of Mizuno, assured that the gear will keep the players warm.

“Without sounding technical, our Breathe Thermo fabric that the players will use self generates heat that our bodies generate during physical exertion,” said Cagalingan.

The temperature in Ulan Bator was at -10 yesterday, but Araneta expects it to be around -1 to zero degrees during the match on March 15.

“With our gear, I think we can do better in Mongolia than in Bacolod,” Araneta said, referring to the 2-0 first leg win.
Meanwhile, Angel Guiriado Aldeguer, a 6-foot-2 Spanish striker, has started training with the Azkals and could join the squad if the Azkals progress to Myanmar for the second round.

Good looking out, Frederick710, thanks sir. Hardworking overseas Filipino workers like you and your family is an inspiration to many Filipinos. Good "intels" like these helps in the prep stages, I hope.

I think the 3dimensional football statue in the photo says it all. It's trying hard not to shrink too much. I look at it for a little longer and I start to shiver.

Ahh, it's going to be a classic one for the Azkals, like classic never before. The thermo kit and all that good stuff might help.

How about a couple swigs, vodka, maybe, before the match? Gin! Nah.

For all it takes sometimes is this: you take a glass of water and....suck it up!

Damn straight, suck it up for team and country.

frederick710 - How big is the Filipino community in Ulaanbaatar.
It's a big boost to our NT if there will be a group of Filipinos who will
provide support. Maybe you could even seat behind the Azkal's bench.

The Filipino community here is not big at all. I've only met 3 of them since I've been here seven months and I'm not even sure they are crazy about football. Then there is the playing date of the game itself which happens to be a workday and during work hours! I'm getting this info that the tickets are going to cost the equivalent of 500 pesos and we are six in the family that will go. My youngest girl at four years might not stand the freezing temperature expected to be at -10 centigrade so that's another worry. Grabe talaga ang lamig maski tirik ang araw ng alas dos ng hapon. I was out of the office today at around lunch time and it was -13 outside (brrrrr). Even with the warmest of clothing the face is still exposed and you start to feel your head aching after only 20 minutes of standing outside. Even with those thermal shirts they'll be wearing, I'm afraid the Azkals are in for some very cold surprises out here literally. 90 minutes of playing time is no joke. They will freeze in their boots I would imagine. Even their famous Mongolian vodka will not solve their problem of extreme cold weather out here. The months of May to September would have been the ideal months as it is will have been summer and warm out here but that is another story altogether. In any case we'll be there cheering the Azkals on! I'm just a bit worried about the freezing weather that we have here that's all. Go Azkals!!

The stadium is finally ready for play! It used to be covered in snow but now they "swept" the snow aside he he he. Hope it does not snow hard between today and game time. Check out the most recent photos of the stadium here:

I was not the one who took the photos on a cell phone and the photos are a bit hazy but it is info nonetheless. No requests for translations of the Mongolian script please. You know I won't be able to help you there. Go kick some a** Azkals!!!!!

Let me just stick my neck out here and give my cell phone number for any help I can extend to the Philippine Team. That is if they need to arrange for transportation, translators, tour guides etc. My cell number is +976 99563237. If you have a local sim you can dial direct 99563237. I will not entertain any spam calls or text not related to football. I will also request the owner of this site to delete this comment after March 15. Lets have a good game here in Mongolia. Go Azkals!!!!!
