As an outside observer looking for ways to get more involved in supporting Football in the Philippines, it has been hard to find out about domestic football in the Philippines. There is limited information available on the official PFF site (http://the-pff.com/) and Google searches for fan sites/forums aren't bringing up many results.

Anyway, I would like to know what the structure is in terms of official teams and competitions. For example, in Australia we have:

    - The A-League - Currently 10 teams from around Australia during our Summer. Each team plays 27 matches, playing each team 3 times during the season. The top 6 teams at the end of this process then progress to the finals series, producing a Champion for the season. Top two (Minor Premier + Grand final winner or runner up if the winner was also the minor premier) qualify to contest the AFC Champions league competition.
    - State leagues - Most states have state league competitions that run during winter.
    - The depending on the state, there are also a few other leagues below that, either state-wide or competitions within districts

I've read a bit about the Filipino Premier League, but there doesn't appear to be an official website for the competition. Is this the top-level competition in the Phils.? Does this competition still exist?

    Cheers,
    philby

The FPL is a Manila leauge. I wouldnt say it is the top level competition, as there are many good teams that arent included from the rest of the country. They had plans to expand the league to other regions in the Philippines, but nothing has happened yet. We will just wait and see if it actually will happen. Newly started leagues have the tendency to be folded after the first year. There is a new league, its in the other thread. Hopefully that will be better. Thats a Manila league as well. System in Philippines is that they dont play each other twice, or in your case, three times. They always use the cup format.
