If we are serious about progressing in football in the Philippines the PFA need to immediately take action and channel a substantial amount of funding into employing a qualified coaching / technical director to assist coach Weiss. Basically take control of the u23 and assist and identify developing talent. The creation of an ongoing national competition is paramount starting in 2012/13 under what ever means are necessary. The PFA should be encouraged and proud of the the achievements and crudentials of the national coach at this stage.
With the recent influx in finances from FIFA, sponsors and likely big name touring clubs I feel this is all achievable. But yes by the time of WC 2018 we will almost certainly have a new national coach but by this stage some simple national structures are in place and working. I am sure this kind of opinion has already been made previously in different postings etc but I am just pushing the same thoughts again ;)
The other countries in Asia now approach any fixture against PHI as challenging and show more respect in regards to the type of squad they submit in matches. The bar has been raised. Lets not take a backward step. The SEA Games highlighted how much impact the worlds number one sport continues to grow in the region. Currently the senior national team have some great players who will be remembered for many years long after they retire from playing. Many of the current group of senior national team players and majority of u23 will be in their playing prime for the 2018 WC and qualifiers. Step forward now PFA and not backward. The massive opportunity is knocking on the door and in only a year or two many of the Philippines neighbours will be envious :)
